Learning How to Learn Course Overview
Learning can be frustrating to feel like you’re not “getting it,” or that you don’t have the capacity to learn something new. But it’s important to remember that everyone learns differently and that there are many ways to improve your ability to learn—whether you’re in school, working on a project at work, or just trying to get through a tough patch in your life.
One of the most important things you can do is recognize your own learning style and strengths. Some people are hands-on learners, while others are visual learners. Do you prefer learning from lectures or from books? Or do you learn best when someone sits down with you one-on-one? Once you know what works best for you, it will be easier for you to find or create opportunities for learning—and make sure they are structured appropriately so that they reinforce what’s already been learned rather than just restating it.
Another way to improve your ability to learn is by practicing retrieval—the act of recalling information from memory without having seen or heard it recently. This involves breaking down information into smaller parts so that it’s easier for us to remember later.
